THE ENGINE BEHIND OUR WORK

Data is the engine. Expertise is the service.

Behind our Transfer Pricing and benchmarking engagements sits an internal data platform, built so that finding and reviewing comparable companies is structured, consistent and open to scrutiny. Clients do not engage us to look at a screen of data. They engage us for an analysis they can use and defend.

WHAT THE PLATFORM GIVES US

What the platform gives every engagement

Our specialists work across a database of 48,000+ listed companies spanning 110+ countries, rather than assembling evidence from scattered lookups. That changes what a screening exercise can reasonably cover.

  • Comparable companies are identified faster, so more of the engagement is spent on analysis rather than on collecting candidates.
  • Longlists and shortlists are drawn from broader coverage, not from whatever a single source happens to hold.
  • Candidates are screened against several layers of criteria at once, instead of one filter at a time.
  • Reliance on scattered manual lookups and on any single source of company data is reduced.
  • The same process applies across files and across the specialists in our team, so comparable sets stay consistent.

HOW WE SCREEN

Our screening workflow

Every comparable set we deliver follows the same route, whatever the sector or the region in question.

  1. Longlist

A broad candidate list is drawn from the whole database using layered filters and semantic search, so relevant activity is picked up even where the wording of a business description differs.

  2. Multi-layer screening

The list narrows against geography, industry classification, financial measures and segment data. Each layer is recorded as it is applied.

  3. Expert review and exclusions

Our specialists review what remains, exclude what does not belong, and weigh unusual results against the context of the industry. This is the step no filter performs.

  4. Defensible comparable set

The outcome is a comparable set with its market range, together with the reasoning needed to explain and defend how that set was reached.

WHERE IT IS APPLIED

Services built on the platform

Our services draw on the same platform and the same screening discipline. What differs is the question each one answers.

Transfer Pricing benchmarking

We search for comparable companies against your tested party and produce the market range that supports a Transfer Pricing file. Screening criteria, exclusions and the resulting range are documented as the work proceeds, so the file can be read and questioned by someone who was not part of the exercise.

Backed by KDATALonglists are drawn from the full database and narrowed through layered geography, classification and financial criteria before our specialists begin their review.

Valuation screening and peer sets

We build the initial peer set for a valuation exercise: companies of comparable activity, scale and market, filtered down from a broad starting universe rather than from a familiar shortlist. You receive the set together with the reasoning that produced it.

Backed by KDATASemantic search surfaces companies whose business activity matches in substance, including those that a search on the wording of a description alone would pass over.

Custom benchmarking studies

Where the question falls outside a standard exercise — a sector, a region or a set of financial measures you want examined on their own terms — we design the study around that question and report what the data supports.

Backed by KDATAMulti-year financial history and segment data allow a study to rest on the measures that matter to the question, not on headline revenue alone.

EXPERT IN THE LOOP

Judgement is not automated

We do not replace professional judgement with tooling — we use tooling to make professional judgement faster, more consistent, and better evidenced.

The platform searches and narrows. Deciding what belongs in a comparable set, what has to be excluded, which adjustments are warranted and how an unusual result sits against the context of its industry remains professional work, carried out by the specialists who will have to defend the conclusion.

Semantic search broadens what we examine and gives us a second route to test the field we have covered. It does not rank, select or sign off anything.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions clients ask

Because our screening rests on a data platform of real scale, with several layers of classification and financial history reaching back over many years, rather than on scattered lookups or a manually chosen sample. Every criterion applied to a longlist can be stated, reviewed and repeated.

No. The platform is a support layer. Our specialists review what it returns, exclude what does not fit, judge whether the remaining set is reasonable, and build the final conclusion themselves.

No. Semantic search widens and cross-checks the search space, bringing forward candidates that a match on wording alone would miss. The professional decisions stay with our team.

Yes. The platform holds 48,000+ listed companies across 110+ countries, with 660,000+ annual financial records and 3,000,000+ segment rows behind them.

Yes. 42,000+ companies carry at least five years of annual financial data and 33,000+ carry at least ten, with a median of 17 years per company.

It suits clients who need Transfer Pricing benchmarking, a peer set built from a broad starting universe, valuation screening, or an initial comparable review before deeper analysis begins.
